“Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start…Doe, a deer, a female deer. Ray, a drop of golden sun…” Surely we are familiar with these words. Some music goes along with them, too. Perhaps you have even heard some students humming such a tune around school recently…The Sound of Music! Mr. Jacoby announced that the 2011 Winter Musical would be the Sound of Music. He did so by playing his personal favorite, “Doe a Deer” for those who attended the meeting. Mr. Jacoby’s colleagues and students were shocked. In his over 20 years at Newark Academy, Mr. Jacoby has never once put on a Rogers and Hammerstein show. He explained that while working on a production this summer, a colleague suggested the show. After contacting Ms. E. and Mr. Lal, Mr. Jacoby finalized his decision.
On December 6, students will audition for the Sound of Music. Voice and dance auditions will take place on the 6th and 7th. After that, callbacks will continue throughout the week. Everyone is welcome and Mr. Jacoby urges the community to do just that, saying, “We have a ball, come out and audition!” When asked about casting he says, “It’s always fun to see who comes out that you don’t expect. It’s anyone’s game. The hills are alive and the casting is wide open for this Von Trapp extravaganza!”
