When being interviewed for college, you must always write a thank-you note to your interviewer for taking time out of his or her busy evening to interview you for a school to which you will most likely not be accepted. Here’s one of the best examples of a thank-you note we have seen so far:
Hello,
Thank you so much for having me at your house last month, and for interviewing me for Columbia University. How lucky was I to find a Columbia interviewer in America! I would have written you this note sooner, but I didn’t.
I was especially delighted to hear about the diversity Columbia has to offer. I assumed everyone there was a native, but am glad to know I will not be the only American-born person there. Hearing about your experiences in New York was really enlightening (Note: I was a bit confused about this in the interview – I’m assuming you took a year abroad in America?).
While at Columbia, I hope to battle the war on las cucarachas. I know that these insects can often be a minor nuisance, and I, as a future politician, will stand up and fight for the surrounding pueblos!
I also hope to volunteer at the Columbia University Medical Center. I will be able to put my Spanish fluency to good use there while assisting the wounded and poor. You may remember this about me from our interview. If not, I doubt you will have forgotten my wit and sophistication. At school they call me Harvey “the really funny, witty and sophisticated guy” Smith. I hope to change this to Harvey “el chico muy divertido, ingenioso y sofisticado” Smith during my stay at Columbia.
I really enjoyed our additional conversations about Snickers, Golden Grahams, corporal punishment, and Columbia’s undergraduate newspaper (which I believe is called El Daily Spectator)—having those passions in common is awesome, and I hope to pursue them in South America next fall!
Sincerely,
Harvey Smith
