As the year comes to a close, the middle school council for next year has come together, not with the 2010-2011 representatives of the school class, but the new council members.

The new middle school president leads the middle school. The middle school president is invited to all the upper class student council and is expected to voice the opinions of the middle school and represent them accurately. They are even elected on the same day.

This year the candidates were Josh Charow ’16 and Sam Sidi ’16. They both had a very large student vote and a boatload of support by the student body. One voter, Ethan Levine ’16 reported, “I voted for Josh because I think he is a good leader, and he is very respectful.” Sam Sidi also garnered many votes as well. “She is very smart and a very good person. I think she would make a great president,” commented Nelle Lightbourn ’16. As usual, both candidates were 7th graders and the voting was close. In the end, Josh won.

The middle school has a strong teacher support, and the council is no different. The advisors are very important to council and help greatly with keeping the meetings on track and keeping them moving. One of the middle school council advisers, Senor Gomez commented, “Both candidates would have been great and I am very happy with this year’s council.”

Josh entered council with many new ideas, “I plan on having a coffeehouse for the middle school.” His ideas include people playing music on guitars and serving coffee to the young 12-14 year old students in the middle school. Not only are his ideas are ambitious, but they are certainly new: “I don’t see the point of the middle school president going to upper school council, the middle school is separate, and it should stay that way.” Josh will encourage some changes for the school, and he plans to implement them. He is a “good friend and a good guy,” commented Rory Tell ’16. Josh has the qualities of a good president. His ideas are new, and hopefully they will affect the middle school in a positive way.
