The Feature Section is always focused on the contemporary. We specialize in presenting current events, writing about relative topics, and discussing what is happening in the now. For this section, that’s all that really matters. But given The Minuteman has the gift of longevity, it’s important that once in a while we consult the archives and view the past through the forum that this newspaper provides. That is what we’re doing in the first feature of our school year. Over thirteen years ago, in February of 1998, this section ran a feature on “Religion and Sex”. Articles in that issue included “Connecting Sexual Preference” (by Matt Talbot ’01), “Religious Doctrine Dictates Sexual Behavior” (by Neelesh Chudasama ’00), and a compilation of student interviews on the topic. Given that the interest surrounding religion and sex has cooled little in the past thirteen years, it seemed fitting to “revive” this feature, and examine just how the discussion points and our opinions have changed. This time around, our focus will be on the confines of sexual education in school, a study of the progress that different religion’s have made toward accepting homosexuality, and an interactive presentation of some community member’s thoughts on the topic. Enjoy.
