Whether you are having a bad hair day or just looking for a little extra warmth, a nifty hat can be just what you’re looking for to complete your outfit. Some of the most popular styles range from crochet beanies to plaid newsboy caps. However, if you are looking to keep abreast of this season’s latest trends, there are two words you need to remember: structure and vintage. From the runways of Betsey Johnson to Moschino, structured hats have made their comeback. So ditch your straw hats and sun visors, it’s time to prepare for winter!
The most recognizable hat of this trend is the classic fedora. With styles and textures ranging from wide brimmed twill with sequins to short brimmed wool with feathers, the possibilities are endless. You will never have a problem finding the perfect hat to accentuate your classic suit or even a casual pair of jeans and a tee. Popular men’s fashion line, Dsquared, has released a series of wide brimmed fedora-esque styles reminiscent of G-Men, a film from the 1930s. And for the ladies, Rag & Bone has a versatile fedora collection unlike its competitors. Check out Barneys New York if you’re interested. Just remember: these hats may seem warm because they come in wool, but most styles are pure eye-candy.
For more casual looks that are not exactly of the moment, a simple beanie or beret can add just the right amount of flare to set you apart from the average Joe. These hats appear effortlessly fabulous on both ladies and gents, making them a great addition to your collection. A fantastic place to find some unique slouchy beanie designs is Zumiez. The striped design by Empyre Girl has a distinctive look that will definitely warrant a few well-deserved compliments. And it’s only $17.00! Other stores including Express and Ugg Australia also have commendable collections for those in search of a more simple design.
And finally, what would this fashion column be without a little faux fur? These extra warm accessories can be worn with the most formal to even the most laid back outfits. Audrey Hepburn’s memorable outfit in Breakfast at Tiffany’s can be cited for the continued re-emergence of this trend. Her fuzzy chapeau looked simply dashing when paired with both a fun, orange-colored wool coat and of course her LBD. While the hat worn by the actress was a magnificent mink Givenchy number, more practical (and affordable) selections can be found at stores such as Daffy’s, Topshop, Macy’s and even Free People.
With the right headwear in tow, you will have no problem getting through the chilly winter months. Providing just the right dose of glam fashion and practicality, you’ll be sure to turn some heads. With so many options, you’ll have more hats than winter days to wear them!
