As my first year at Newark Academy draws to a close, I look forward to a traditional bonding event of eighth grade; the Capstone trip. Other unforgettable (ha!) events past this year include the Eighth Grade Hoedown, Fairview Lake Camping, Girls’ Night Out and the Boys’ Sport Tournament.
For those unaware, the eighth graders will soon go to Washington D.C. and participate in various scheduled activities. Some educational, relating to the eighth grade curriculum in World Cultures and Science but others just for fun highlights of the trip.
I spoke to Dean Tan ‘18, another new student, about his expectations for this capstone trip.
“I think that this year’s capstone trip to D.C. will be fun, educational, and constructive towards our grade. While we will have to do research and present to the class beforehand, visiting the museums, Library of Congress, and spending several days in D.C. will be enjoyable,” Dean said.
Many eighth grade students agreed with Dean’s sentiments.
Will Hayward ‘18, a student who has been on Capstone trips before, commented, “It will be a great way to close out our Middle School experience.”
And I agree wholeheartedly, soon the current eighth graders will close a short chapter of growth to move on to a new and unfamiliar voyage that is high school. I know that the eighth graders cherish the capstone trip.
