Spirit Week is an annual tradition at Newark Academy; a time when students and faculty show how much passion they have for our wonderful community. Spirit Week is also a time to embrace our roots and think about how lucky everyone is to be going to such an accepting, challenging school. Whether it’s by competing in sports, or just taking a moment to think about our school’s history, Spirit Week is about having fun, and beating the seniors. Mostly beating the seniors. Here are some recaps of all the the great highlights the middle school had during Spirit Week.
Dodgeball
Arguably the most exciting event of the entire Spirit Week, dodgeball was a blast. Although I was not permitted to partake, watching the middle school play was my favorite part. Middle school beat the freshmen in the first game they played. At the end we were left with a handful of people as we caught and passed our way through.
For the next game, middle schoolers gained confidence. So much so that it came down to the end for a clear victor. Whether it was a student who was sniping down a freshman, or a middle schooler making the first point out of the senior game on a brilliant catch, it was unforgettable.
Ping Pong
Ethan Chee. When you say that name, all you can do is be proud of a 7th grader who took a commanding victory in ping pong. After taking the path that included lots of other great players whom he took down, our very own middle schooler did not disappoint in taking the victory.
Pep Rally
The biggest part of Spirit Week and definitely the most important point-wise, the pep rally was a blast. It was so much fun seeing a creative skit from every grade and beautiful vocals by some powerful and amazing voices. As the youngest group, middle school surely did not disappoint, getting a very good grade from the skit and displaying a 3-D Hunger Games poster.

All in all, middle school did well…disregarding our actual score. A number could never take away a Newark Academian’s pride. The theme this year was Mockingjay, which middle school did a great job with, considering not everyone has read the book or seen the movie.
