Diversity is a fairly common word in the Newark Academy vocabulary. We recognize it as a source of pride and a central tenet of our school’s purpose. Most frequently, when we refer to diversity we refer to race, but the word diversity itself encompasses a larger range of ideas. Our student body includes a variety of religious beliefs, many of them unique and unfamiliar, as well as an assortment of distinctive talents. Diversity entails difference, something often found at Newark Academy in the form of political opinions, yet even this aspect of diversity adds positive value to our community. Our initiatives to foster support and acceptance of LGBTQ+ students are a core part of our commitment to diversity, which has progressed immensely throughout the past few decades and will only continue to do so.
