Newark Academy Teachers: As Seen on TV!

by Sammi Powell ’19, Staff Writer

Some teachers on TV and in movies are seen as evil or boring or rude. Others are portrayed just as characters in the background. But sometimes there are teachers that stick out like the C on my midterms, and we just so happen to have some of these teachers right here in our own building. Here are just a few of NA’s teachers and their iconic on-screen doubles.

Mr. Reed & Sikowitz from Victorious

Though he may not wear long scarves or take advice from a coconut, Mr. Reed is Newark Academy’s own Sikowitz. Like Sikowitz, Mr. Reed is energetic and passionate about teaching his students. Both teachers care greatly about their students and are willing to take the time to talk to and meet with their students. Pretty sure next time Victoria Justice visits, she’ll have an epic déjà vu moment.

Ms. Hone & Ms. Honey from Matilda

Ms. Hone & Ms. Honey are basically the same person. All Ms. Hone needs to do is add a “y” to her last name and boom! There you go, she’s Ms. Honey. Both teachers take special interest in each and every student, and support them no matter what. Like Ms. Honey, Ms. Hone is sweet and gentle, and genuinely enjoys the curiosity her students and does anything in her power to make learning as enjoyable and fun as possible. Also, sweaters.

Ms. Fischer & Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus

These ladies have more in common than just insanely good fashion taste. Like Ms. Frizzle, Ms. Fischer is upbeat and energetic, willing to do anything to help her students understand what they’re learning. Ms. Fischer is willing to take it to the extremes to share passions with others (i.e. this year’s community service presentation), just as Ms. Frizzle is willing to take kids on trips that I’m 100% sure their parents did not sign permission slips for — go child safety!

Mr. Erlandson & Walter White from Breaking Bad

Um, duh.
