Books You Should Read!

by Ellie Pitkowsky ’18, Humor Editor

Well, it’s that time of year again. With January and February quickly passing us by, people are starting to realize that they completely failed at their ambitious New Year’s Resolutions and are feeling a little, say, worthless. So, they try to bring them back. One of the most popular New Year’s Resolutions in the NA community is learning how to read! Wow! That is exciting! To honor these eager go-getters, I thought I’d compile a list of my favorite books for all you youngsters. Happy reading!

1. Pride and Prejudice

Let’s start light, shall we? Last week Ms. Fischer told me that her son read this in a single night and thought it was uneventful and “not that good”. I haven’t read it myself (still learning), but it’s on my list. I hear it’s light and fast. A good beach read.

2. The Holy Bible

**NEW BOOK ALERT** I don’t want to spoil any of the plot for you guys but man, all I’ll say is that this one’s a doozy. It’s definitely a lighter read but still pretty meaningful and substantive.

3. Cam Jansen and the Mystery of the Stolen Diamond

bOy oH BoY is this one crazy. Perhaps one of the most heartwarming, emotional, and dark books I’ve read in a long time. Cam Jansen, a young girl with CRAZY POWERS takes on the mystery of a lifetime. This story is nothing short of a masterpiece and will have you moved to tears in the first 10 pages. And, not to spoil anything, but the end will make you : ) !

4.The Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark

As if the Cam Jansen book wasn’t enough, here’s another tear-jerker. The Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark is a story of bravery, independence, and time travel. Besides the obvious of being moving and beautifully written, the tale is actually based on a very true and very accurate story.

I hope this short list gets you started for the new year! Toodles <3. If you are having trouble reading or you don’t like doing homework, Dean Tan, one of The Minuteman’s Editors-in-Chief, personally told me that he would: 1., Read all of your assignments to you aloud, and, 2. complete them, free of charge!
