On Señor
Luis Gomez or “Señor” is an extremely iconic member of Newark Academy who is known by all to be an intelligent teacher and a kind, humble person who is always filled with humor. It saddens the entire community to hear that after providing twenty-six years of a stellar Spanish education, Señor Gomez is going into retirement. He has made an enormous impact to the school including, in his own words, the creation of a very strong Spanish program in the middle school. Señor has truly made an astounding and unforgettable difference on the education of those who were in his classes and those who participated in other activities with him. He notes that one of the most memorable things about Newark Academy for him were the trips he went on and conducted such as the Costa Rica trip and the Puerto Rican exchange trip which occured for three years. Señor’s dedication to the school is uncomparable as students still remember the trips they went on and thank Señor for providing them with such wonderful experiences and memories. In the classroom, Señor Gomez is just as influential and joyful through his unique dances and songs which will cause his students to never forget the grammar rules and exceptions. Señor hopes that students will never forget those songs and dances and continue being as hardworking as they were in his class for the rest of their lives.
Personal Reflection
Señor Gomez is who comes to mind when I think of a kind hearted, wise person who has definitely influenced me in a life changing way while I was in his seventh grade Spanish class. I learned a lot of valuable lessons in Señor’s jovial class and gained precious knowledge about the Spanish language. I remember how ecstatic I was on my first day in Señor’s class because I heard there is so much a student can draw from Señor’s stories and lessons. I’m glad that I was in Señor Gomez’s class as it was quite an unfathomable, enlightening, and memorable experience. I only wish Señor would stick around a little longer because any person is lucky to spend just minutes around such a delightful person with a bright character. I thank Señor for all he has contributed to my education and our marvelous school.
