15 Easy Ways to Avoid College Talk

By Joe DeNoon ’13, Editor/Man

With college decisions season upon us, a reference guide of 16 conversation topics has been assembled for friends of seniors.  Here’s what to talk about instead of college decisions:

  1. The weather- the classic conversation starter can help you get a conversation going, or change the current topic. Always exciting.

    So exciting.
  2. Their mother- Mark Wahlberg’s method- just ask “How’s your mother?” in a thick Boston accent.*
  3. That time your pants fell down in pre-school and you cried and ran to the corner- That’s happened to everyone, right?
  4. You have something in your teeth. Enamel! Haha. Good Joke. May result in punching.
  5. The banjo- it’s an instrument. Discuss.

    Look at its smug face…
  6. The game- did you catch it? This weekend?
  7. Community on NBC- it’s a great TV show. Check it out. This is just a very genuine tip.
  8. “So…” then walk away.
  9. I think my mom is calling me.
  10. That time your pants fell down in junior year and you cried and ran to the corner.
  11. Airline food- What’s the deal with it?
  12. Them Yankees- How ‘bout them?
  13. Where babies come from.

    Right?
  14. Your love life- or lack thereof…
  15. The Impending Apocalypse- repent!

*Does not work on Batman. Or Harry Potter.
