As the rest of Newark Academy starts winding down for the holidays, the middle school performing arts students are hard at work practicing and preparing for the fall concert.  On November 21st, the IB class, the after school dance class, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade dance classes, the intermediate dance class, and “Run To You,” a combination of the IB and Intermediate dance classes, all led by Ms. Luxenberg, will be featured in a dance recital. They will be performing  at the all-school morning meeting that day, and the next night at 7:30pm. As a special addition to this year’s event, there will be LIVE music sung by “Diminuendo,” Newark Academy’s a cappella group, for the sixth grade’s dance.

On the 19th of December, there will also  be an exciting concert for the 6th Grade “borchestra” [band + orchestra], and the 6th grade chorus. The sixth grade “borchestra,” the 6th grade jazz band “Gecko,” and PEM, the 6th grade strings trio, directed by Ms. Emelianoff and Mr. Tolentino, will perform their songs to teachers, families and other students at 10 am in the Black Box theater.  The chorus’s performance will also include the Junior Academy Voice’s songs, all of which are  directed by Mr. Lal, which include, “The Storm is Passing Over,” and “I Dream A World.” The sixth grade chorus will sing the famous Christmas carol, “Sleigh Ride.” Additionally, on the 11th, there will be a concert for the rest of the middle school “borchestras,” including the choral concert for the middle school.  Another impressive show is Chameleon’s upcoming production at the Livingston Mall. Lastly, there is a school community-wide art showcase coming up soon in January. This year’s theme is “Zoom In.”

Phew! That was a lot! Don’t worry if you aren’t in one of these pieces…you can always just sit back and enjoy…any time from late November to early January!
