Below is the dialogue of the interview:
How many different socks and ties do you own?
“I don’t know, at least over 200 ties, and maybe 50 pairs of socks.”
How often do you repeat an outfit throughout the school year?
“4 times.”
Do you ever mix and match ties?
“YES! Always, that’s the only way.”
What is your casual wear?
“Jeans and a button down.”
Pocket Square or handkerchief?
“Both.”
If you are on an island and you had to pick one, pocket square or handkerchief?
“I just can’t pick. I mean I can’t blow my nose on a pocket square because it shows but I guess I’d choose the pocket square because people can see it.”
Bow tie or regular tie?
“They’re both good, but I have more regular ties and they’re more useful.”
Have you ever considered being a male model or fashion consultant?
“NO. I would absolutely say no. Definitely not modeling because I’m 5’6’ and not 19 years old but I’d consider a fashion consultant. I actually had to help Pete McNeally in 2007 pick out an outfit when he was receiving an award for the Athletic Hall of Fame. He did not come dressed appropriately to be receiving an award.”
So maybe a personal stylist?
“Yes, sure, why not?”
Describe your style.
“Updated classic – a little twist on classic.”
What is your bargaining process?
“I wouldn’t say I bargain. My strategy is: look for sales, thrifting, Ebay; all good sources. These boots came from Ebay. They were still expensive but I got a good deal for them.” (On the shoes Mr. Pursell was wearing during the interview)
We know you ran a marathon in the recent past. When you ran the marathon, were you wearing a suit?
“No I did not wear a suit… I wore real running clothes. But actually, I did wear tights.”
Would you ever have a closet sale?
“No. But I do donate the clothes I don’t wear anymore.”
Helping others be as stylish as you!
“Hahaha.”
What advice would you give others inspired to have high style like you, and be on that level?
“Wear what you like!”
