The Newark Academy Minutemen

By Isabela McNeilly-Anta ’23, Student Writer

Ever wonder why our “Mascot”, “Logo”, “Symbol” is a dude with a hat from 1774? Well, OK., maybe we know as much about him that he is called a minute man.

But that is it. No more, no less. So next time, I’m not gonna bail you out on your history test. So pay attention.

A minuteman was a member of a group of American militiamen just before and during the Revolutionary War who held themselves in readiness for instant military service. In other words… They could be prepared to fight in one single minute.

If the minuteman is newark Academy’s logo then doesn’t that mean we are prepared and on our feet ready for anything? It is a symbol of strength that we can carry with us wherever we go.

Whether it’s a soccer game or a test, a field trip or a small trip to school in the morning, we are ready.

We are ready to help, support, fight or even defend, we are ready.

In everything we do we represent the minuteman and our school and the best thing we can do… is to be ready.
