A singer formerly known for her heavy makeup and detailed costumes has taken on a new role in the recent craze in the theaters. Lady Gaga (Ally) plays the part of a struggling artist and songwriter, in the new movie, “A Star is Born.” Her coworker, Bradley Cooper (Jackson Maine), plays a musician, who is also an alcoholic. The two characters together create the romantic drama.

They first meet in a bar where Gaga sings a breath-taking song and immediately catches the attention of Jackson Maine. Towards the end of the song, they make eye contact and he is fascinated by her voice, but there is something more. The initial connection goes beyond the plain interest in the vocals. From that night on, the two hit it off and continue their musical and romantic journey together. The remake of the 1937 film shows the life Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper as they try to become stars. Cooper becomes a part of Gaga’s life just as she was giving up on herself, and convinces her to stick with her dreams. Through the rough patches of both their careers and the relationship, the two must work out their troubles and make it big.
From the start of the movie, the actors and actresses come out strong to create an immediate impression on the viewer. Their impressive voices along with their acting keep the viewer intrigued in the movie. Personally, I think Cooper, especially, plays a difficult role but is an expert at it. Before seeing the movie, I was unaware that he could sing, but I was blown away by his voice. Both he and Lady Gaga rocked their songs and left a lasting mark on the audience. For once, it was nice to see Lady Gaga unmade up. I am used to her detailed outfits and dark makeup, but in this movie, she played a completely different role that showed a simpler side of her that I liked.
For the most part, that movie kept me engrossed, but the middle of the movie could have been stronger. The only issue was that it slightly dragged on. Besides that, the movie was phenomenal. The beginning, especially when Cooper was just discovering Gaga, kept me, along with the rest of the audience, in awe.
This movie has been remade multiple times, yet this specific one has sent movie-goers and critics wild. With high ratings and outstanding reviews, the movie is a home-run. According to the New York Times, the movie “thrills from a steadfast belief in old-fashioned, big-feeling cinema.” The praise doesn’t stop there. Countless positive mentions of this movie and recommendations to see it have been heard all around. Critic Sandy Schaefer says, “Fueled by strong performances and Cooper’s precise direction, “A Star is Born” is a moving (and tear-jerking) love story.” Students here at Newark Academy chimed in on the film. Freshmen Ava Cole describes the movie as a “phenomenal film that captures the essence of love and music.”
The storyline and characters are not the only amazing things. The music, as well, has had dramatic effects on viewers. Lady Gaga, especially, has a powerful voice that when mixed with the meaningful songs creates a beautiful sound, leaving people wanting more. Even individuals who haven’t seen the movie are raving about the soundtrack.
The movie is moving and inspiring, and something everyone should see. It’s the newest crave and the newest blockbuster. I found it empowering and creative and you will too. Odds are you’ll see it sooner or later, so why wait? See it now and be in with the newest hit.
