When the S.A.C. was first introduced, some people didn’t think it was a great idea. At first, it was about as quiet as the auditorium after one of Prism’s jokes. Once everyone realized there was birthday cake, however, people flocked there like students flocked to the podium when Dr. D asked for only important announcements at morning meeting. I feel bad for Ms. Galvin because she has to hear the loud freshmen playing football out in the courtyard, and inside the S.A.C, not to mention the colorful language. The S.A.C. is so big that two groups of friends can even hang out there at once. It’s just a brand new source of noise for the English classrooms. Not even AirPods could block out the noise (and no, they don’t fall out).
Some of the items in the S.A.C. just seem a bit extra. For example, what are students going to do with a microwave? All that’s going to do it make the place smell like ramen and microwaved pizza. That’s what the cafeteria–sorry, dining hall–is for. The S.A.C. was the school’s attempt to make another workplace for students, but also so they could also keep track of them.
I think this might just be an excuse to give kids detention. If an unsuspecting freshman walks in with a sweatshirt and vape in hand and uses some questionable language, it’s all over. I hope freshman don’t realize you can hook up an Xbox to the TV, or it will become the F.A.C. (Fortnite Activities Center).
Finally, there has been some controversy surrounding the Student Activities Center. Shortly after naming it that, the administration realized that students would start pronouncing S.A.C. as “sack.” I personally think that we, as mature, adult, intelligent Newark Academy students, are better than that. I’m begging you that when you read this article or discuss this in the future, you refer to it as the A.C., S.A.C. or Student Activities Center. (not sack!!!!) Come on, guys, we’re better than this. I hope to see all of you spending time in the S.A.C. soon.
