Spirit week is one of the most fun and exciting weeks of the year. The Middle School was excited for this year’s theme: Medieval Middle School, and was determined to succeed. This year, it was obvious that there was a great improvement in the Middle School’s participation in Spirit Week. The common room was decorated more thoughtfully, and there was much more time put in to it. The middle school was one vote away from winning that part of Spirit Week. The Middle School won the skit and students were very enthusiastic in events such as crazy hair day and red and black day. There was a change in the attitude of the Middle Schoolers this year. When the Middle School win was announced, we cheered instead of just clapped, and above all else, the student council put more effort and changed a few things in the way we went about possibly winning spirit week.
The student council put lots of effort into Spirit Week. Middle School President Josh Charow ’16 appointed Sam Sidi ’16, and Claudia Hyman ’16 to be in charge of the decorating of the common room. One student commented, “They did a great job. Everyone on the council pitched in and it looked awesome.” Not only was the common room a successful part of Spirit Week, the Middle School skit was as well. The skit was organized differently than most years. Instead of having it so anyone could join and help write the skit, Laura Boyman’16 wrote it, and Josh Charow ’16 edited it with a few others in the grade. He chose specific people he thought could make it funny, and picked certain people for roles- to make the skit the best, and funniest it could be.
Not only was it the student council that made a large impact in the success of Spirit Week, it was, of course, the students of the Middle School with their outgoing attitude that helped their voices be heard. In past years, the Middle School hasn’t participated in spirit week as a whole ,and there have always been many people who do not dress up. This changed this year. Almost every single person throughout the three grades dressed up and were extremely outgoing. Thanks to the student council, and the students of the Middle School, Spirit Week was extremely successful, and most of all, fun!
