Winter Fest: A Blast for The Middle School!

By Christopher Pan’18

As students walked in the Kirby Gym and saw the action packed floor, they knew it was going to be an exciting night.

You can’t blame them. When the whole Middle School is there and there are an infinite number of activities to do, it’s hard to not try and jump in and enjoy the fun. Zachary Wu, of the 6th grade, commented, “There were so many things to do that you never got bored.

Winter Fest, a Middle School Student Council run event, features a mixture of sports, video games, and usually one big main attraction. Food and drinks are also served.

This year, the main show was a giant bungee run. For those of you who don’t know what bungee runs are, it’s where you attach yourself to a vest which is attached by a cord to the back of the bungee run, and you run up with a basketball to the other side of the bungee run and shoot before you get slung back by your vest. The Middle Schoolers loved it and they competed against their friends to see who the better was. Siddarth Tumu, a 6th grade student council member, said, “The bungee run was a blast and many students had fun with it.”

Not only did the bungee run provide a lot of entertainment, but many people competed against each other in video games, such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl or Fifa 11. The video games turned out to be a great success and the 6th and 7th graders had a blast with it.

And how can you forget sports in occasions like this? Sports like table tennis, to basketball, to volleyball are featured. Students played against themselves and even teachers! Mr. Pursell enjoyed playing basketball with some of the 8th graders, and Mr. Rezvani and Ms. Reeves competed against students in a mixture of volleyball and basketball.

Overall, Winter Fest was a great success. Many thought it turned out well and it exceeded their expectations. Even the teachers. Ms. Sparacino, a 6th grade Humanities teacher, said, “I thought Winter Fest turned out to be a very great event where students could have fun socializing, and I believe events like Winter Fest are better than dances because students always have something they like to do, and there isn’t any awkward dancing.”

An experience at Winter Fest is one that you get once in a lifetime. Students and faculty look forward to it every year and never over anticipate the fun.
